Rapid growth in the Software Engineering field demands that its professionals stay current with evolving technologies and industrial practice. Since June, 1996, Carnegie Mellon’s School of Computer Science (SCS) has been committed to meeting this need by developing and delivering at a distance world-class software engineering courses.

Our program offers practicing engineers an opportunity to merge state-of-the art concepts and methodologies with real-world challenges. Bringing SCS faculty and staff together with software engineering professionals, these courses present innovative approaches to problems and issues in the field.

Students may enroll in one of the following options, depending on their needs:

The Certificate in Software Engineering (CSE) offers a concentrated course of study. The CSE program comprises five core courses adapted from the Master of Software Engineering Program program and will prepare you to excel as a software engineer and project leader.

The Master of Science in Information Technology (MSIT) provides an environment for mastering the discipline of information technology for professionals. The program is organized around three basic educational forms: Core Curriculum; Electives/Specialization Tracks; and the Software Development Practicum.

The Master of Software Engineering (MSE) provides an environment for mastering the discipline of software engineering for professionals. In order to qualify for this program, students must have corporate sponsors and have six co-located students, in addition to meeting the individual admission criteria.
